REC

TREASURY RESTRICTED 30th June

1800

Sir,

The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury

have had under consideration Mr Meade's letter of the 12th

May last respecting the proposal of the Government of

Hong Kong for the issue of a token coin for 50 cents, and

They direct me to inform you that They concur with Lord

Knutsford in thinking that the circulation of such a coin

would not be less suitable for Hong Kong than it has

proved to be in the Straits Settlements

My Lords agree that the proposed coin will

be issued in pursuance of the provisions of Her Majesty's

Proclamation of 9th January 1863, and that no further

legislation will be required.

They have accordingly authorized the Master of the

Mint to supply twenty-five thousand dollars worth of the

new coins upon the usual conditions

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient servant

Kewelby
